A JOBSPARK EXPLORATION GUIDE

How School Subjects Connect to Careers

School subjects are ways of learning about the world. Each can connect with many careers, and most jobs draw on more than one subject.

Maths and problem solving

Maths can support design, engineering, accounting, software, science and practical planning. Look for careers that use patterns, measurement and clear reasoning.

Science and investigation

Biology, chemistry and physics connect to health, farming, environmental work, technology and research. Ask whether you enjoy observing, experimenting, explaining or building.

Art, language and communication

Creative subjects connect to design, illustration, writing, education, media and many roles that communicate ideas. Creativity also matters in technical problem solving.

Geography, history and understanding people

These subjects can connect with conservation, planning, archaeology, teaching and work that understands places and communities.

Keep your options open

Enjoying a subject does not commit you to a career. Struggling now does not mean you can never develop that skill. Use subject connections to discover possibilities, then check actual course entry requirements when you need to make choices.
